Here is my remix of Niggy Tardust's track, break. I used the vocals from the track and played some drums with brushes, some bass, trumpet, acoustic guitar and other various things into Logic Audio. I'm kinda proud of this one.

This is a before and after with 4 bass traps in the corners of the room. Yes the kick sounds louder and boomier in the first, but the second will sit better in a mix. Much punchier and transparent as the purists like to say. I think the snare also loses some of its ring.

The rear of the room. The panel on top will be hung above the drums if I can figure out how to do it...

A shot of the studio, all set up with my homemade bass traps!
Behind the rack in the corner and hung on the walls for the mix position are 2 4" thick wood frames stuffed with acoustic panels made of owens corning 703 (OC703) and wrapped with semi stretchy fabric. The shine in the top panel is OC703FSK(covered with foil), which is in the front, backed by the unfoiled stuff. The foil sucks in bass and bounced back some mids and highs. Others don't have the foil on the front to absorb more upper freqs. You should be able to breathe through the fabric that you use. Your lumber could be 1" X 6"'s cut to make 2' X 4' inner dimensions(size of uncut 703). Be very sure to measure your actual lumber size before having it cut, otherwise you will be using a handsaw to shorten some pieces up.
~$500 for 12 panels. Call HVAC suppliers for the insulation. Now go make your own.
p.s. Two panels will not stack to your 8ft ceiling.
